Tube Spool Winding Positioner: Eliminated Hydraulic Issues and Increased Spool Yields with Hybrid Linear Actuators

Challenge

A metal tubing manufacturer was experiencing leaks and other reliability issues with their HPU and hydraulic cylinder actuators on a spool winding machine used for packaging their finished tubing products. They were looking for a more dependable solution that was more accurate to improve the winder positioning and increase spool wind density. The application also required a long stroke actuator (40” stroke) that limited the options available.

Kyntronics Solution

  • “Total Solution” consisting of a long-stroke electric linear actuator including drive, control,and HMI in an enclosure. Factory-tuned software to operate the system.
  • Integrated an external encoder that was located on the shuttle for position feedback and control.
  • The actuator positioned the winder shuttle precisely and adjusted the winder speed depending on the encoder feedback and position of the shuttle.
