A utility customer was using hydraulics to actuate a large water/wastewater valve. They were experiencing excessive leaks and high maintenance with the HPU and hydraulic cylinder actuators and were looking for a more reliable alternative. The application also required a failure-safe device as a backup in case of a power failure. They considered an electro-mechanical actuator but determined it was not robust enough for the shock loads inherent with this application.
