Customers in the food and beverage and pharmaceutical industries have stringent requirements for high-performance actuation systems rated for washdown duty service.
These systems must be robust, reliable, low-maintenance, and capable of precise control of position and force. The Kyntronics Servo Power Unit (SPU), coupled with an IP67 or greater washdown cylinder, provides an ideal solution for these cases.
Customer Outcomes:
→ Reliable washdown solution with minimal maintenance → SPU is easily located in a washdown enclosure or remote → Servo control of position and force → No metal-to-metal wear, unlike electro-mechanical actuators
Ingress Protection (IP) ratings define how well the actuator and its connectors are protected against solid particles and water exposure, with higher numbers indicating greater environmental protection. IP ratings are commonly used when selecting actuators, especially in dusty environments, washdown areas, or anywhere exposure is expected.
But there’s a critical detail that can get missed during the specifications review: Many electro-mechanical screw-type actuator providers list their IP ratings as “static”, meaning the rating applies only when the actuator is not moving. Once the actuator cycles, that protection level no longer applies.
