Lifting and Positioning Actuators: Yes, It Is Possible to Synchronize and Position All Four Posts of a Lifting Platform

Challenge

A tier-one automotive supplier had issues with synchronizing a pneumatic actuator system on a lifting platform. This resulted in the lift mechanism binding and interrupting production. They required lifting actuators that could be accurately synchronized and positioned within 0.010” across the four posts of the lifting platform. They couldn’t use electro-mechanical actuators due to shock loading and hydraulic cylinder actuators were difficult to synchronize and leaked creating maintenance headaches.

Kyntronics Solution

  • Four “Total Solution” hybrid electric lifting actuators to replace the pneumatic cylinders with each actuator having position and force feedback along with four drives mounted to a single backplate.
  • All four actuators were synchronized to simultaneously lift the platform evenly despite uneven loading.

Customer Benefits

  • Eliminated downtime and interruption of production that was experienced with the previous pneumatic system.
  • Achieved desired synchronization requirements of (+/-.010”) across the four posts of the platform.
  • Easy integration into the existing lift mechanism.

Application Requirements

Stroke: 5″
Speed: 3.5 in/sec
Force: 1,000 lbf. per actuator
