Mobile Wireline Boom Positioner: Compact Servo Power Unit Replaced Hydraulics Saving Energy, Reducing Maintenance and Improved Control

Challenge

An OEM of mobile wireline equipment for the oil & gas industry wanted to eliminate the HPU on their mobile vehicles and improve the positional accuracy of their take-up booms. They determined that an electro-mechanical actuator could not be used for this application due to the shock loads the lifting system would experience.

Kyntronics Solution

  • A “Total Solution” servo power unit (SPU) that operated the boom positioner actuator. The system included the power unit, motor, and drive mounted to a backplate.
  • Float mode is used to release solenoid valves.
  • Integrated the existing customer cylinder and integral position feedback device for closed-loop servo control of the boom positioning.
