Appliance Panel Metal Forming Line: Reaching Sustainable Manufacturing Initiatives with Hybrid Linear Actuator

Challenge

An appliance manufacturer was planning a new dishwasher panel metal forming press line and wanted to eliminate hydraulics to improve process control and repeatability. They had downtime issues from hydraulic leaks on an existing line and wanted to eliminate maintenance by using electric actuators while reducing energy consumption on the new line. They required servo actuators to operate their metal forming presses, including, bending, clamping, and hole punching stations.

The new equipment was required to support the company’s Sustainable Manufacturing initiative, targeting energy efficiency, improved operator ergonomics, and a smaller environmental footprint. In addition, they required Rockwell Automation servo motors and drives to operate the actuators.
