Dry Ice Extrusion Press: Eliminated Hydraulics with High Force, Hybrid Linear Actuators

Challenge

An OEM of dry ice production machines wanted to eliminate the HPU and hydraulic cylinder actuators from their machines to reduce noise, eliminate leaks, and improve energy efficiency. They required a high-force hybrid electric actuator for their extrusion machine that would produce high forces (>22,000 lbf.) and integrate with their PLC for machine control purposes. The high force requirement made electro-mechanical actuators cost-prohibitive.
