Metal Fabrication / Material Handling: Steel Truss Bundling Equipment Required Long Stroke Actuators with Shock Load Tolerance

Challenge

A steel building truss manufacturer wanted to eliminate hydraulics on their material bundling system due to leaks and excessive maintenance. They required long stroke positioning actuators that could handle the high shock loads inherent in their steel truss bundling equipment. This ruled out using screw-type electro-mechanical actuators due to the risk they would be damaged. This machine also required long-stroke lifting actuators for the lift stations with 102” stroke.

Kyntronics Solution

  • Nine, “Total Solution” electric linear actuators. The system included actuators, motors, cables and a multiple-axis control system in a floor-standing enclosure, factory-tested and tuned.
  • Long stroke actuators including 102” stroke length units.

Customer Benefits

  • Met the customer’s requirement to eliminate hydraulics resulting in reduced operating costs by eliminating hydraulic fluid disposal and replenishment, energy savings and lower maintenance.
  • Actuators that can handle shock loading without damage.
  • Ability to achieve the long stroke requirements.

Application Requirements

Stroke: 33” – 102″
Speed: 3 – 6 in/sec
Force: 500 lbf. – 15,000 lbf
