Challenge

A tire OEM needed an actuation solution for a road simulation tire test machine that would apply different forces on the tire in different directions. They did not want to use a large HPU but wanted position and force feedback and programmable control for the tests. An electro-mechanical actuator was ruled out due to the high forces required and metal-to-metal wear reliability concerns.
