Challenge

An OEM of active vehicle security barriers was experiencing ongoing performance and reliability issues with electro-mechanical actuators used in their wedge barrier systems. Exposure to harsh outdoor environments led to ingress-related failures, while shock loading from vehicle traffic caused premature wear and damage to internal mechanical components. These challenges resulted in frequent, expensive maintenance, increased downtime, and inconsistent barrier performance, creating the need for a more durable and reliable actuation solution. The OEM was also looking to simplify their supply chain and move away from having to coordinate components from multiple suppliers.
