An automotive tier-one supplier wanted to replace an air-over-oil cylinder used on an assembly press that assembled tires to wheel rims. They were having a number of maintenance issues with air-over-oil cylinders that were creating extensive downtime and high maintenance costs. They didn’t want to use hydraulics and were looking for a solution that would withstand the shock loading inherent with this assembly process and reduce cycle time.
