A manufacturer of metal components for the automotive and aerospace industries wanted to upgrade one of their metal forming presses with electric actuators to improve quality control. Existing presses in the facility were hydraulic-based and had poor process control. They requested that an HMI be included with operator interface software for the setup of different parts. The metal forming process involved shock loads, which ruled out the use of an electro-mechanical actuator.
