Challenge Kyntronics’ Engineers with Your Application
Our SHAs are used in a multitude of applications in a variety of industries. Our team of actuation experts are often tasked with solving some challenging customer actuation problems.
We recently constructed actuation systems for applications in the metal fabrication and food processing industries. Both are new SHA configurations that utilize Kyntronics’ standard actuation modules with a ‘twist’. The first incorporates use of an Induction Motor with VFD and the other contains a SHA packaged to an IP67 rating for washdown protection.
Welding Position Lift System: Building Truss & Decking Manufacturer
Customer wanted to replace a maintenance intensive Hydraulic Lift System that wasted energy, leaked and incurred significant downtime. Features of this Actuation System:
- Incorporates an Induction Motor with VFD; also available with Servo Motor / Drive
- Utilizes End of Travel Limit Switches in lieu of available linear transducer
- 6,000 LBs (26.7 kN ) force
- 6 in/s extend / 6 in/s retract speed
- 24 in (0.6 m) stroke
- No Brake; Internal Locking Valve Holds Position without Power
IP67 SMART Electro Hydraulic Actuator Food Processing Facility
Features of this Actuation System:
- Drench Tank lift for food processing facility
- Enclosed motor rated IP67 special epoxy paint on the complete actuator for caustic washdown protection
- 2,000 LBs (8.9 kN ) force
- 8.6 in/s extend and 11.5 in/s retract speed
- 55 inch (1,400 mm) stroke
Think You Know Actuators?
For many years, machine designers had to choose between traditional, fluid powered hydraulic cylinder actuation systems or electro-mechanical ball screw or roller screw actuators. You no longer have to settle for these underwhelming solutions with their inherent disadvantages. Kyntronics offers an alternative actuation technology; the SMART Electro-Hydraulic Actuator (SHA). The SHA combines the advantages of hydraulic power with advanced servo-control resulting in an “all-in-one” actuator that outperforms these other solutions.
SHA Advantages vs. Traditional Hydraulics and EMAs
- All-In-One Self-Contained Solution
- Minimal Maintenance; no fluid to replenish, no filters or hoses to replace, no leaks to fix
- Cleaner, Quieter and more Ergonomic Working Environment
- Minimal fluid... only 14 oz in a 10,000 Lbf, 8” stroke actuator
- Only Consumes Power on Demand - significant energy savings
- Free-up Valuable Space... eliminates the HPU and related components
- Lower Cost of Ownership
- Flexibility to Orient the Actuator to Fit the Application - multitude of configurations
- Precisely Control Position, Force and Speed and Synchronize Multiple Actuators with Ease
- Unaffected by Shock Loads or Concentrated Loading; unlike electro-mechanical actuators

Collaborating for an Integrated Solution
Together, Kyntronics and Rockwell Automation have developed an innovative Add-On- Instruction (AOI) for the Kyntronics SHAs and Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley Servo Motors/Drives/PLC. This Control option provides additional functionality and a complete solution for our mutual customers; allowing the OEM/Machine Builder the option to provide their own Rockwell Automation components and utilize Kyntronics AOI to facilitate the integration.
Kyntronics / Rockwell Automation AOI Software Features:
- Simple Integration into ControlLogix Platform
- Position Control
- Force Control
- Force and Position Control
- Position Control with Force and Speed Limiting
- Compound Moves/Multiple Gain Sets
- Multiple-Axis Synchronized/ Coordinated Motion
