High Force Actuators
High force actuators are generally classified as having a force rating >5,000 lbs. (22.2 kN). Only a few types of actuators can handle these high force requirements and high duty cycles while being robust and reliable. Conventional hydraulic cylinders powered by hydraulic power units are traditionally used in these applications however, Kyntronics SMART electro hydraulic actuators are frequently chosen due to their superior performance as more customers move away from the inherent problems with conventional hydraulic systems.
Ball screw and roller screw actuators are more fragile and are susceptible to damage and pre-mature failure from shock loads, side loading and concentrated loading conditions.
Kyntronics standard actuators are available with force ratings up to 150,000 lbs. (667 kN). These high force linear actuators include all the standard features of our SMART Electro-Hydraulic actuation systems (SHA). They are totally sealed, electrically powered, and use an attached motor and integral pump. They operate on a closed circuit using a small volume of fluid that is not exposed to the environment, preventing contamination and does not require replenishment or replacement.
Certain applications such as presses that have longer strokes due to tooling clearance require high speed actuation for productivity while providing high force actuation during the power stroke portion of the cycle and must achieve precise, repeatable quality and documentation of results while operating at a high duty cycle.
For these types of applications, Kyntronics developed the H-series; high speed/high force actuation system. The H-series incorporates all the features of our standard SHA product with the addition of a dual cylinder system. One cylinder provides the high speed portion of the cycle and the other cylinder, the high force portion.
