Welding Press: Positioning and Clamping Truck Axle Components for Welding using High Force Hybrid Linear Actuators

Challenge

An automotive tier-one axle manufacturer was implementing a new welding press machine to replace hydraulic cylinder actuators that were leaking, causing environmental concerns and excess maintenance. They required a high-force electric linear actuator that could press a yoke onto a drive shaft and hold it in place while being welded.

Kyntronics Solution

  • High-force electric linear actuators with position and force feedback and servo control of position and force for the weld press operation.
  • Rod protection using bellows covering.
  • Actuator only configuration using customer-supplied Rockwell Automation motors and drives.
