Servo Hydraulic Actuators
Servo hydraulic actuators are a term used to describe a linear servo actuator that utilizes hydraulic technology as the means to achieve motion.
Kyntronics produces a linear version of a servo hydraulic actuator called the SMART electro-hydraulic actuator (SHA). These actuators are rugged industrial linear servo actuators that are electrically powered, servo controlled and often used on critical precision applications. Unlike traditional servo hydraulic actuators that use proportional servo valves to regulate flow and pressure to the cylinder, Kyntronics servo hydraulic actuators utilize a servo motor that is bi-directionally operated with precise servo control of motor speed and torque.
The linear motion produced by Kyntronics electro-hydraulic actuator is simple, the actuator extends the cylinder rod by the motor rotating the pump in one direction. Retracting the cylinder rod is accomplished by reversing the motor direction. The speed and force output of the actuator is accomplished by closed-loop regulation of the motor speed and motor torque that drives the pump using a position sensor and optional pressure sensor to provide feedback to the servo control.
Kyntronics electro-hydraulic actuators are used on applications requiring precise linear motion control. A position sensor provides an input signal to the programmable actuator servo controller which determines when the actuator motor starts and stops and can be programmed to precisely move to preset programmable positions.
Unlike traditional hydraulic systems, Kyntronics SMART electro-hydraulic actuator (SHA) is an entirely sealed unit, eliminating the risk of leaks and the need for complex assembly of many components into a hydraulic system. With its integral hydraulic cylinder, the SHA isn’t affected by shock loads while providing more accurate control and large range of rated forces but without the maintenance headaches and downtime risk associated with traditional hydraulics.
When it comes to heavy duty equipment applications, manufacturers often have to choose between either hydraulic cylinders or electro-mechanical screw-type actuators. Both types of actuators offer excellent benefits, but each has its shortcomings. Kyntronics electro-hydraulic linear actuators provide unique benefits not available with other actuation technologies such as hydraulic linear actuators or ball screw and roller screw actuators:

- Low maintenance; the actuator does not require fluid changes required by hydraulic actuators or regular lubrication required by ball screw or roller screw-type actuators.
