Smart Actuators

Smart actuators are intelligent actuation devices that incorporate certain components such as servo motors, position feedback sensors, force feedback sensors, temperature sensors, servo drives, motion controllers and network interfaces.

Smart actuators are available in many types of actuator technologies including:

  • Electric linear actuators / electric hydraulic actuators.
  • Electro-mechanical actuators.
  • Electro-hydraulic actuators.
  • Servo actuators / servo hydraulic actuators / servo cylinders
  • Electric actuators
  • Pneumatic actuators.

Demand for Smart actuators is increasing across many industries due to broadening customer requirements that include:

  • Desire to reduce energy usage through more precise actuation.
  • Increased need to improve process quality and reduce scrap by more precisely controlling the position, force, speed and dwell of the actuation production cycle.
  • Requirements to increase machine flexibility to produce a wider variety of parts through greater programmability.
  • Need to reduce maintenance costs by using sensors and software to predict actuator and machine wear ahead of unplanned downtime.
  • Need to reduce tooling expense and tooling repairs by more precisely controlling actuation stroke profile to prevent damage. This is of particular interest in press applications where tool wear occurs often and is expensive to correct.

Kyntronics SMART Electro-Hydraulic linear actuators are designed with features that address the requirements listed above. These actuators are available in two versions:

  1. A Total Solution version that includes the linear servo actuator, motor, actuator drive/control, software and field cables as a complete actuation system.
  2. An Actuator Only version that includes the actuator for attachment to customer-supplied motor, drive and controller.

Kyntronics electro-hydraulic actuators are found in nearly every industry on a variety of applications including:

  • Presses
  • Assembly
  • Metal Bending
  • Lifting
  • Hole punching
  • Material Handling
  • Packaging
  • Testing
  • Clamping
  • Extruding
  • Molding
  • Valve Control
  • Mobile Equipment
